The FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix Finals was won by the Brazil Women Team, which is the World’s No.3 Volleyball Team with 3-2 at the Huamark Indoor Stadium on Sunday. The Brazil team consisting of Fabiana, Fernanda Rodrigues, Natalia Pereira, Sheilla Castro, Thaisa Menezes and Dani Lins has defeated the World No.1 USA team, for which they took five sets. Brazil’s Fabiana, Fernanda Rodrigues, Sheila Castro, Natalia Perira and Thaisa Menezes made scores in double digits – Fabiana made 18 points in the match.

However, Foluke Akinradewo of the USA team scored 19 points and topped. USA made the opening set with 25-18. In the second set Brazil made it with 1-1 (with a second set triumph of 25-17). In the 3rd set, Brazil took the lead, but USA decreased it to 24-23. Ultimately, the Brazilians got 25-23. Thus, it took five sets to win. The USA team had won all the matches throughout the tournament excepting the one lost to China.
Both the winner and runner up teams have gone back to their homes to prepare themselves for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. The USA team is very much keen in winning their first Olympic gold medal by correcting their mistakes in the FIVB tournament against Brazil. The Netherlands won bronze medal against Russia in the tournament with 3-2, at Indoor Stadium Huamark.
Teams Aim for Olympics
The FIVB Volleyball World League Group 1 finals took place from Wednesday till Sunday at Krakow in Poland, which is one of the chief volleyball centers in the country. 54 matches were played in the Preliminary Round in which 12 teams from nine countries took part. Brazil has won for the 11th time in the World Grand Prix. The Canada, Russia and Czech Republic teams are getting ready to test their worth at the Rio Olympics 2016 to be held in August, 2016. The teams include men teams from Russia and Canada and Women teams from Russia and Czech Republic. Russia’s men’s team had defeated the Belgium team with 2-0, in the semi-final. The Canadian team defeated the Venezuela team with 2-1. The team that could be selected for the Olympics will be decided in the play-off that is to be held on July 16, 2016.
The Qualifying Men and Women’s Teams for the Rio Olympics
Russia’s second men’s team who had defeated Belgium with 2-0 on the finals of the FIVB World Continental Cup held at Sochi, Russia is likely to be sent to the Rio Olympics 2016. Russia had never been qualified for the World-level tournaments including the CEV Continental Cup final, in which the team was eliminated in the eighth finals. Being the host country, the Russian team was given wild card for the FIVB World Continental Cup Olympic Qualifier.
For the women team, it is required for the Czech team to defeat China. Hermannova and Slukova of the Czech team have been selected by the federation to represent the Czech Republic in the Rio Olympics. The Russian team (women) defeated the Austria women team with 2-1 in the FIVB tournament held at Sochi, Russia. The China team got the fifth place, which had defeated Thailand with straight sets.
The Russian women team made better use of their last chance during the FIVB tournament in Sochi – they won the final round. The Russian women played very carefully without making mistakes and they were able to achieve finally. The aim of the Russian women was to get into the Olympics. Birlova of the Russian team, who had retired in 2014 for the reason to give birth to a baby girl, mentioned that the Olympics are the reason for which she came back.
